What is an email leads list? I define it as a compiled list of names and emails, from people who give you permission to keep in touch with them via email. In most cases, these are folks who have previously visited your website, blog, or a traditional business, and “opted-in” to receive your newsletter (or special offers). They typed in their name and email in your “opt-in form” or gave you their name and email, which gives you permission to keep in touch with them on a regular basis, via email.
Please know that an email leads list is the single greatest asset of your business. Regardless of which type of business you own, you need to build a customer and prospect list. Your customer list is a detailed list of anyone who has ever done business with you. On the other hand, your email leads list is people who have responded to your advertising, and visited your website or store, but have not purchased something yet.

#Why a List is Important
It’s important to realize that most prospects need to see your message at least 20 times before they will respond to your offer. If you only communicate with them once or twice and then stop, you won’t get very good results with your advertising efforts. That’s why you need to focus on building an email leads list. You want to capture everyone’s name and email (or as many as possible) from folks who visit your website or storefront.
#What To Do
As you capture their contact information, you want to send out educational and entertaining mailing list messages to your list on a regular basis; at least once a week. The purpose of communicating with your email leads list on a regular basis is so that you can build rapport with them. You want to send a tip of the week, an inspirational quote, or something educational in your message. At the bottom of each email, you can provide a link back to your website where your prospect can check out a special offer, an item on sale, or something else.
You don’t want your email messages to be “pitchy” or “sales oriented.” If you do this, lots of people will ask to be removed from your email list. So, make sure you focus on educating your prospect and try to build a positive relationship with them. This will take time. If you are going to send some sales messages, keep a 10:1 ratio of 10 educational emails to one sales message.
I believe that the true purpose of advertising, or building a website, is to generate leads, not sales. Some people will disagree with that. But, it’s important to remember that 90% or more of your prospects won’t buy from you the first time they hear your message. Instead, they need to hear your message repeatedly, until they feel they can trust you, and are ready to do business with you.
That’s why you need to focus on building an email list. You need to safeguard your list and treat it as your greatest business asset. In addition, you should also have a separate email list for all your past and former customers. You want to keep in touch with them too, on a regular basis. This will help generate additional sales and will increase the lifetime value of each customer.
Final Thoughts
In conclusion, your email leads list is a very important business asset. All business owners should focus their marketing efforts on building a list of prospects that they can send messages to, on a regular basis. Although most of these folks won’t buy your products or services right away, they will eventually, if you can build a relationship with them through email. I hope that helps.
